The prosecution of an aide to Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari over a social media posting has been postponed.
Jay Jay Denis, who is Amirudin's press secretary, previously said he was supposed to be charged today over a post on X that was critical of Malacca governor Mohd Ali Rustam.
However, he posted an update last night saying the prosecution date had been postponed.
“I have high hopes that no one else will be a victim and Malaysia can be more mature,” he added.
In the Sept 6, 2022 post, Jay Jay claimed to have witnessed a convoy with police outriders and escort vehicles blocking traffic on the Sprint Highway to perform a U-turn.
He alleged that Ali later emerged from one of the cars.
Jay Jay claimed that Ali had gone to have a family dinner at a restaurant in Medan Damansara, Kuala Lumpur, and the former posted a video of Ali's convoy leaving the vicinity after the meal.
The posting led to him being detained overnight by Malacca police a month later.
Investigations were done under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code, which criminalises those who make statements that cause alarm or may induce someone to commit an offence against the state.
He said that Jay Jay is also being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act - which covers misuse of the internet.
