PARLIAMENT | Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim was urged not to take too long to appoint a minister to lead the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry.

When making the call, Ahmad Tarmizi Sulaiman (PN-Sik) said he was taking into account the management of the allocations received by the relevant ministries in addition to the various cost of living issues that continue to plague the people.

"This ministry does not need to wait too long, (it has been) more than four months and the vacancy for a full minister has not been filled. How long do we want to wait when we are managing (spending) RM1.88 billion for this ministry?

"I suggest that the prime minister not wait any longer to appoint the minister. Don't wait long," he said during the Budget 2024 debate session for the ministry in the Dewan Rakyat today.

Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari is being touted as the new minister to replace the late Salahuddin Ayub who passed away in July. Adly, 52, is also the only Amanah vice-president who won his contest in the 15th general election.

However, until today there has been no firm development regarding the appointment to fill the vacancy.

Salahuddin, 61, who was also formerly deputy president of Amanah, died at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Setar, Kedah, on July 23 after undergoing surgery for a brain haemorrhage.
