COMMENT | Accepting Bersatu four might end govt’s reforms

      P RamasamyPublished: Nov 13, 2023 1:30 AM | Updated: Nov 13, 2023 1:32 AM

COMMENT | What reform agenda are we talking about when the whole idea of winning over the opposition MPs is predicated on getting the numbers?

In other words, we are not talking about the reform agenda of the Madani government under Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim but a government that wants a brute majority at any cost.

At present, the government has 147 MPs; 81 from Pakatan Harapan, the result from BN, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (20), Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (six), Warisan (three) and eight others including those who defected from Bersatu have pledged their support for Anwar.

Although the Harapan-BN coalition has more than a simple majority support of 25 MPs, the Harapan coalition, the bedrock of the present government, might not be in a strong position. The fear of defections seems perennial among the ranks of the government.

The support from outside the coalition makes the coalition very vulnerable and shaky.

Of all the people, Anwar knows the best...
