'No contest for top 5 positions in PAS'
PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and four others in the party's central leadership line-up will retain their positions in the upcoming election for the 2023-2025 term.
PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said this follows the end of nominations from all 197 divisions nationwide, ahead of the party's 69th annual muktamar next month, which will be held concurrently with its internal polls.

PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said this follows the end of nominations from all 197 divisions nationwide, ahead of the party's 69th annual muktamar next month, which will be held concurrently with its internal polls.
"For the president and deputy president’s post, we only received one nomination, that is to retain the present position," he said during a press conference at PAS headquarters in Kuala Lumpur today.
Hadi has held the president’s post since 2002 while PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man was elected in 2015.
Takiyuddin said there were four names nominated for the three vice-president posts, comprising three incumbents - Bagan Serai MP Idris Ahmad, Kelantan assembly speaker Mohd Amar Abdullah, Terengganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Shamsuri Mokhtar - and Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, who has since declined to contest.
“So, this year’s election will only involve the election of (18) PAS central committee members,” the Kota Bharu MP added.
PAS’ main general assembly with an expected attendance of 1,400 central delegates will be held at Ideal Convention Centre, Shah Alam, from Oct 20 to 22.
Takiyuddin said elections and general assemblies of PAS Youth and PAS Women will be held at the same venue on Oct 18 and 19, while its non-Muslim and veterans wings will also hold their separate conventions earlier in the same week.
