Eight people died in northern Malaysia yesterday when a container lorry rammed into a car queued up at a highway toll plaza, state media reported.

Seven of the dead were from a single family while the eighth victim was in another car struck after the initial collision, Bernama news agency reported.

Police said the accident occurred shortly before 4pm as the cars waited to pay the toll on a highway at Alor Setar, in Kedah state.
