PKR election committee head William Leong has denied that the Youth wing elections were delayed because the voters list had went missing.

Speaking to malaysiakini at the sidelines of the PKR congress in Seremban this evening, he attributed the almost four-hour delay to "technical glitches."

According to him, the reasons for this ranged from the Wanita elections finishing later than expected and having to break for the Friday prayers.

Leong said the same committee was handling both the Wanita and Youth elections.

Unforseen circumstances

He explained that the Wanita elections were supposed to be held at 1pm but was delayed for two hours by unforseen circumstances.

Leong said his team was ready to hold the Youth wing elections by about 4pm but this too was delayed because other programmes had been brought forward.

He said the election process began at about 6pm. However, he could not confirm if the results for both the wings would be announced tonight.

Initially, there was also talk on the ground that the list had gone missing due to an act of sabotage.

The Youth elections has become a tensed affair following allegations of interference against PKR adviser Anwar Ibrahim.

Anwar, who is expected to run for presidency, has denied the allegations.
