Just throwing out ideas, PN Youth on alternative National Day logo

Perikatan Nasional Youth chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari says that the coalition’s youth wing was merely throwing out ideas to use a different National Day logo and theme.

He said that it was the state governments’ prerogative on whether to decide to use the alternative logo and theme from the ones announced by the federal government.

The Pasir Mas MP added that PN Youth would not negotiate with PN-led state governments to move forward with its idea.

“It wasn’t a matter of us negotiating with one state to another, but just throwing (ideas) to the masses.

“If the state government wants to take it, it can take it. There is no problem. If PN-led state governments feel that they have no issue with the federal government’s theme, that’s not a problem.

“To us, it isn’t a big issue,” Fadhli (above) was quoted as saying by Harian Metro.

No separate ceremony

Terengganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said that the state would not be using the proposed alternative National Day logo and theme.

However, Samsuri stressed that state governments set the themes for Merdeka Day celebrations at the state level, not Putrajaya.

Selangor did not use the federal government’s logo last year, opting instead to apply its own.

However, Fadhli said that the PN Youth would continue to use its proposed logo and theme.

He stressed that there would be no separate ceremony using the logo and theme to celebrate National Day, but only through a social media campaign.

He said that this was to ensure people would be patriotic without it being mixed with elements of party politics.

In a separate video posted to TikTok, Fadhli called on the federal government to use neutral words for its National Day theme and logo, claiming that the current one had political connotations.

He said that it contains words that were used by Pakatan Harapan and BN during campaigning for the recent state elections.

The federal government’s theme for the 2023 National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations is “Malaysia Madani: Tekad Perpaduan, Penuhi Harapan” (Determination in Unity, Fulfilling Hope).

Fadhli took issue with the words ‘Madani’, ‘Perpaduan’ and ‘Harapan’ in the theme.

PN Youth’s alternative Merdeka logo depicts the national flower - the hibiscus - with five petals, taking the colours found in the Jalur Gemilang and with the theme "Teguh Muafakat Malaysia Sejahtera" (Strong Consensus for a Peaceful Malaysia).

The PN Youth chief said that PN’s theme did not use ‘Bersih and Stabil’ even though they were words used during its political campaigning.
