On Wednesday a number of users suddenly reported not being able to access news portal MalaysiaNow, specifically those using Celcom and Maxis.
The portal’s editor Abdar Rahman Koya said they did not find unusual activities on their servers or cyberattacks which leave them with the possibility of an “unlawful” block of the website.
In an immediate response, Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil said he did not issue any directive to block any news websites.
The block came a day after the portal published a report alleging that Fahmi had threatened critics on a livestream he hosted with police action.

No eternal allies or foes for Mahathir
Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad criticised Muda, the party of his former protege Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, for its decision to go solo in the upcoming state polls.
At the same time, the nonagenarian said he is eager to talk about the Malay Proclamation with Muhyiddin Yassin, whom Mahathir fell out with over the Sheraton Move three years ago.
The Malay Proclamation is Mahathir’s brainchild to raise awareness among the Malay masses that they have ostensibly “lost power”.

Umno pushing for more Selangor seats?
Amid seat negotiations between BN and Pakatan Harapan, who will have their first electoral cooperation in the upcoming state polls, speculation is rife about Umno pushing for more seats in Harapan’s stronghold Selangor.
An Umno source claimed that they have already negotiated their way into contesting at Hulu Kelang.
Hulu Kelang is currently held by Amanah’s Saari Sungib.
However, the top leadership from Harapan and BN remain tightlipped about their arrangements.
