PAS has alleged that three party activists were attacked - one was seriously hurt - after members of Umno Youth's Gerak Gempur set upon them with sticks and other hard objects early this morning.

The Umno workers were said to have attacked after they found PAS Youth member Nazar Latif and several others putting up posters in support of PKR in front of the Umno Klang's operations office in Simpang Ijok.

According to PAS member Mohd Azmi Anwar, who is on the party's security committee for Kuala Selangor, Nazar was hit repeatedly, causing him to bleed from the head.

"He is currently at the Sungai Buloh Hospital receiving treatment," said Azmi when contacted.

Also assaulted was PAS Youth worker Mohd Shah Moin, who fainted as a result of the blows he received from the attackers. Borhan Osman, meanwhile, was said to have been pushed into a nearby ditch. Two others, however, were not seriously injured.

A report was lodged immediately following the incident at the Batang Berjuntai police station.

Simpang Ijok is one of four Malay-majority seats in the Ijok state constituency that is hotly contested between BN's K Parthiban and PKR's Khalid Ibrahim.

In the 2004 general election, the opposition garnered half of the votes in the district. PKR also received half the votes in Jaya Setia, where Malays also predominate.

PKR won the majority votes in Kampung Ijok and Bukit Badong.
