Despite the lacklustre 'legacy' left behind by K Sivalingam, Barisan Nasional's K Parthiban is one lucky man to be given a second chance by the Chinese community in Ijok.

This is the feeling of one tuck shop owner Tan Soon, 61, whose shop is located near the MCA operations center in Kampung Baru Ijok.

"Sivalingam was really bad. He did not do anything. For years after he was elected, he never visited us once.

"How can we vote him in again? While he was not working, the money (for the people) masuk poket (went into his pocket)" he said.

Asked why he would give Parthiban his vote come polling day tomorrow, he smiled and said because the candidate helped him with his fencing issues.

"He and some BN people help negotiate some problems concerning my fence being built on somebody else's land.

"Who's going to fix the drains? Who's going to fix the roads? Can the opposition do that? I don't think so," he said.

Tan said Parthiban's opponent Parti Keadilan Rakyat's Khalid Ibrahim has visited the area three times but he remained convince of the BN.

However he said that Sivalingam had tested his loyalty to the BN he voted twice for the late state assemblyperson and then by the third term, he got fed up and took his vote elsewhere.

New face

Asked what would he do if Parthiban failed to deliver, the businessman who was kept busy with his phone throughout said nonchalantly: "Then I won't vote for him again."

He added that he has never seen so many people in the town before.

"There has been more people here in the past two week than there were in any elections that this state has ever had," he mused.

Meanwhile, another Ijok resident identified only as Oon, 38, said BN has her vote because the roads were tarred and land grants were given to people in the area.

"I have always been an MCA supporter and they have helped us with so many things recently," the restaurant operator said.
