On RM100 mil vote-buying: Why is EC silent?

Sangkancil: I am happy to see millions of ringgit were promised to voters in Machap during the by-election there and millions more are promised to the Ijok voters in the upcoming by-election. This is a very unhealthy trend and it gives me the impression that the BN government would not give development and other forms of help if there is no election.

Roads get resurfaced immediately come the election, otherwise you have to wait for weeks or someone getting killed before potholes are attended to. May I suggest the state assemblymen in Johor Baru areas resign - consider it a personal sacrifice for us all - so that by-elections can be held as the two most urgent thing I like to see improve in my area are:

  1. Additional allocation to beef up police personnel and enhance security.

  2. Once and for all, solve the potholes problems - these potholes keep appearing a few weeks after the roads are resurfaced. Quality tak cukup? (not enough?)

Of course, there are other bigger issues like corruption, the government delivery system, police salary (please give them a good raise), poverty, transparency and governance, etc... This can wait until the general election I supposed.


On Ijok: PKR Malay candidate a smarter strategy

Charles F Moreira: Richard Teo is right on the choice of a Malay PKR candidate for Ijok, except for one thing - it's a tactic not a strategy since the strategy is to win the seat and choosing a Malay candidate is the tactic, the means to get there.

Ideally, it would be great when we all can think of ourselves as Malaysians and not in terms of race but getting there will take a long time and a long struggle, and the first milestone will have to be getting rid of the BN, which relies on maintaining racial polarisation to remain in power.

That done, the new government can proceed to heal the racial divisions, though that again will be another monumental task. In the light of the realpolitik on the ground and at this point in time, the PKR adopted the correct tactic.

Poor Malaysian: This is pure racism from Keadilan as it never has the interest of getting the support of the minority. Remember the by-election in Lunas, Kulim? They did the same. Let me post this question to the Keadilan advisor, what has he done for vernacular schools when he was the education and finance minister?

Neither Nalla or Khalid should be the candidate. It should be Tian Chua as he is the man who has grabbed much attention in the local media for his courage.

On Dr M: Pak Lah was to serve only one term

Ibrahim K Musa: Our 'revered' elderly politician is at it again. Did Tun Mahathir come to some kind of a package agreement with Pak Lah on the eve of his relinguishing the premiership? And was 'Pak Lah to serve only one term' part of the deal? What about the 'secret understanding' of not washing any dirty linen of the previous government in public under the new reign? Was
it also agreed that the prosecution of the corrupt cronies should be waived?

Why must Mahathir insist on installing Najib on the throne when the latter's dubious character is now under scrutiny? In fact, in a democratic nation, it is up to the people to decide on the choice of their rightful leader, a person of credibility and integrity. Nobody should dictate terms, what more from a near senile and inconsequential person.


On Sarawak CM to sue Malaysiakini

Discriminated Citizen: Congratulations malaysiakini for standing your ground against the Sarawak CM and for not being intimidated by his so-called court action. As stated by Lim Guan Eng, why did he not take action against Japan Times, but rather take action against malaysiakini? Please expose more scandals of our corrupt leaders and may justice prevail.
