Following a spate of contradictory statements, PAS has finally decided to support its opposition ally Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) in the upcoming Ijok by-election in Selangor.

PAS secretary-general Kamaruddin Jaffar said the decision was made yesterday. He revealed that the party's heavyweights will be hot on the campaign trail.

Among those expected to take to the ground is party president Abdul Hadi Awang. He is scheduled to speak at several ceramah.

PAS deputy president Nasharuddin Mat Isa will represent the party tonight during the official naming of the PKR candidate in Batang Berjuntai. The announcement will be made by PKR advisor Anwar Ibrahim.

"PAS Selangor has been directed to give full cooperation to PKR's campaign," said Kamaruddin when contacted today.

Previously, PAS had boycotted the Batu Talam and Machap by-elections over the purported failure of the Election Commission to institute electoral reforms.

Following this, both Hadi and PAS Youth chief Salahuddin Ayub had suggested that the boycott will continue for Ijok as well.

PKR will be fielding its treasurer Khalid Ibrahim who will take on Barisan Nasional's MIC candidate K Parthiban on April 28.

The Ijok state seat fell vacant following the death of MIC incumbent K Sivalingam on April 4.
