Malaysian authorities have arrested more than 30 people in the country's largest ever "syabu" busts following simultaneous drug raids in three states, a report said today.

Police raids were conducted in Johor, Negeri Sembilan and Penang island, The Star daily reported.

A substantial amount of stimulant "syabu", or methamphetamine, and cash were seized in the operations.

Two of the biggest laboratories were discoverd in a palm oil plantation in Johor, the report said.

The raiding parties had to call in forensic experts as well as chemistry department officials for assistance following the discovery of chemicals and other hazardous materials used to make the drug.

Police believe the drugs were meant for both local and international markets.

Police chief Musa Hassan confirmed the operation and said "investigations are still ongoing," the newspaper reported.
