Axe mufti call: Gerakan denies, PAS suspicious

PAS Federal Territories is not convinced with the explanation from Gerakan Federal Territories over the alleged resolution calling for the sacking of Perak Mufti Harussani Zakaria.

PAS Federal Territories is not convinced with the explanation from Gerakan Federal Territories over the alleged resolution calling for the sacking of Perak Mufti Harussani Zakaria.
On April 2, the Star reported that the resolution was made during the Gerakan FT convention the day before.
It said the Barisan Nasional (BN) component party members wanted Harussani's head to roll over the spreading of a false SMS about a mass baptism for Malays in a church in Perak last year.
PAS Youth leaders saw red over the resolution and some even called for police action against Gerakan.
However, during a dialogue session between both parties in Kuala Lumpur this morning, Gerakan FT Youth chief Ma Woei Chyi denied that such a resolution was passed.
"It's a misunderstanding," he said during the hour-long session, which was open to the media.
After accepting PAS FT chief Mohamad Noor Mohamad's protest memorandum on the matter, Ma in return handed a copy of the resolutions passed during the convention.
Set the record straight
During the dialogue, Mohamad Noor said he was "suspicious" of how the matter was picked up by the media if there was no such resolution.
"Maybe there was some change in the resolutions (after the convention)," he said sarcastically. Ma, however, denied this.
Mohamad Noor said the onus was on Gerakan FT to make the necessary clarification through the media and if needed, take legal action against the media organisation concerned.
"This is neccesary because it is a serious issue - there must be non-interference in the religion of others," he said.
He stressed that religion was a 'sensitive' issue and matters concerning Islam must be handled by Muslims.
Met later, Mohamad Noor said the party will proceed with its protest against Gerakan at Kampung Baru this afternoon to "pressure" Gerakan to set the record straight on the issue.
Meanwhile, Ma explained that the Gerakan FT convention was held on the orders of Federal Territories Minister Zulhasnan Rafique.
The resolutions from the FT BN component parties would then be forwarded to the national BN convention, he said.
As for the PAS FT's memorandum, Ma said he would relate the demands to his party's top leaders.
Today's discussion was a rare meeting between opposition and ruling parties. Both parties agreed that there should be further dialogues in future to discuss other issues.
