'Shahrizat's comeback way forward or step back?'

A Wanita Umno leader has urged the wing's members to reflect on their journey, whether to move forward or take a step back with speculations that former minister Shahrizat Abdul Jalil has been urged to make a comeback.

Taking to Facebook, Wanita BN communications director Rosni Zahari said there was no truth in reports that 147 Wanita Umno division chiefs had thrown their support behind Shahrizat for her to contest the Wanita Umno chief position once again.

"As a veteran in Wanita Umno exco, I did my investigation and the statement turned out to be not true.

"Most of them (Wanita Umno) raised concerns over harmony, peace and solidarity within the party, particularly at a time when Umno is on its last breath.

“Wanita wants stability to rebuild strength and return the rakyat's trust towards the core of its struggle," she said.

She was responding to Kota Melaka Wanita Umno chief Haryaty Hamdzah who reportedly said that most of the wing's division chiefs had met with Shahrizat and urged her to return as their leader.

Haryaty reportedly said that Shahrizat left behind many successes as part of her legacy and reputation as the first women, families and community development minister.

Rosni, however, said she has worked with four Wanita Umno chiefs, each with their own leadership style, including Shahrizat's successor, former higher education minister Noraini Ahmad.

"Noraini came into power at a time even Umno was very weak, powerless, and moneyless, unlike the times of her predecessors.

"So, it would be unfair to her (Noraini) if anybody were to liken her to the past leadership. Even in times of hardship, she tried her best to mainstream the Wanita movement," said Rosni.

As such, she cautioned Wanita Umno leaders against falling for any agenda with the potential to destroy the party.
