Pejuang confirms Mahathir no longer chairperson
In a statement today, Pejuang president Mukhriz Mahathir stated that he has accepted Mahathir's decision to step down from his post.
Pejuang has confirmed that former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has resigned from his position as chairperson of the party.

"Only Allah SWT can repay his services to us. Surely Tun (Mahathir Mohamad)'s struggles, legacy and spirit will be continued by Pejuang in the name of race, religion and country.
"Pejuang strives to ensure the thinking, leadership style and focus on Mahathir’s success - that is based on principles and pure cultural values - will be exemplified by heirs to his struggle," said Mukhriz, who is also Mahathir's youngest son.
Pejuang stated that despite stepping down, Mahathir will remain as Pejuang’s ordinary member.
However, Mukhriz did not explain why the 97-year-old politician had made the decision.
Pejuang's statement came after rumours of the former premier's resignation from his Malay-based party surfaced yesterday.
The party fielded 67 candidates for Parliament seats in GE15, including Mahathir and Mukhriz. All of them lost their deposits.
Just four years ago, they were the prime minister and Kedah menteri besar, respectively.
Mahathir suffered a crushing defeat in Langkawi, where he finished fourth in a five-cornered fight.
Mukhriz suffered a similar fate, losing in Jerlun where he had been its MP since 2018, after Perikatan Nasional won the seat in the last polls with a 20,456-vote majority.
Analysts have dismissed Pejuang’s presence in the political landscape as being irrelevant with the rise of PN - which is now seen as the standard bearer for Malay-Muslim politics.
PN - which won 74 seats in total - showed its strength in the recent polls, indicating a decline in Malay support for Umno and BN.
It also showed a shift in voters’ support towards PAS and Bersatu.
