breaking news Former ISA detainee Dr Badrul Amin Bahron was re-arrested this morning and held under the act again just two months after his conditional release.

Rawang district police chief Massari Hashim confirmed that the Keadilan leader was arrested at the district police station at around 10.45am.

He said Badrul was then transferred to the Kamunting Detention Camp in Perak at around 11.30am.

Asked what was the reason for Badrul's re-arrest, Massari said, "This was done on orders by the Home Affairs Ministry."

When contacted, Badrul's wife Zumrah Husni said she had accompanied Badrul to the police station as he had been summoned to present himself by 10am. She was waiting for him in the car when he was arrested.

Zumrah said she will be contacting Badrul's lawyers regarding his arrest.

Court date

Badrul was released from the Kamunting Detention Camp early last November but was restricted to the Gombak district in Selangor where his house is located.

The former Universiti Islam Antarabangsa lecturer was also barred from holding any party posts and taking part in public gatherings and any form of political activities.

Prior to his release, he was serving a two-year detention order under the ISA with five other Keadilan leader and social activists for allegedly trying to topple the government via militant means.

The 40-year-old Sabah-born preacher and motivational expert is well known among opposition supporters for his fiery speeches.

Yesterday, Badrul was scheduled to answer charges before the Selayang Magistrates Court on whether he had breached restrictions and conditions tagged with his release.

However, the court had fixed March 5 to decide whether to charge Badrul on those allegations.
