Flash floods hit Klang

Residents reported that flood waters had entered their homes, posting photos and videos of the situation on social media.
A webcam on the Selangor Irrigation and Drainage Department’s (DID) flood information website showed some flooding in Johan Setia, Klang, while the flood gauge there reported a water level of 27cm.
A flood gauge reading there above 15cm is considered a “warning” level, while readings above 30cm correspond to the “danger” level.
So far, the Johan Setia flood gauge is the only one in Selangor that reported a “warning” or “danger” level.
In addition, one river water level gauge in Klang was at the “warning” level (P/A Pandamaran), and another two were at the “alert” level (Bandar Klang and Kampung Jawa).
According to the Fire and Rescue Services Department, about 30 residents from eight homes in John Setia were evacuated after the flood waters rose to knee level.
They were moved to SK Johan Setia temporary flood relief centre until the water levels receded.
Tidal surges
Previously, the Meteorological Department warned of large tidal surges from Nov 6 to 11.
It said there is an increased risk of flooding if such surges coincide with continuous heavy rain. The next surge is predicted from Nov 22 to 27.
Yesterday, the DID issued an advisory putting a list of places across six states on alert for possible flash floods in the ensuing 24-hour period up to 6pm today.
Klang was not listed in that advisory.
However, a new advisory was later issued, dated 4pm today. The new advisory, in force until 4am tomorrow, listed several locations across four states including the Klang district.
