A businessperson endured terror after being taken by a group of men, before being released a few hours later, believed over debt issues.

According to Ampang Jaya police chief Mohamad Farouk Eshak, the 38-year-old victim was walking alone after having a meal at a restaurant in Jalan Pandan in Ampang, Selangor, yesterday, when a group of men forced him into a white Toyota Vellfire.

"Police received the report of the incident at 5.03pm. The man turned up at the Ampang Jaya police headquarters at about 10.45pm, saying that he was freed in Klang.

"He sustained injuries on his feet and face, and has been treated at the Ampang Hospital," Farouk said in a statement, adding that the abduction was believed done over a dispute on debt.

He further said his team are now tracking down the suspects.

Videos of the incident had gone viral on social media since yesterday.

Public tried to help

One footage shot by passers-by shows the abductors forcing the victim into the Vellfire, while another video shows several motorcyclists tailing the luxury multi-purpose vehicle to try and intercept it, and free the victim.

Farouk thanked the public who tried to help in the incident and urged people not to borrow money from unlicensed money lenders.
