Lahad Datu MP Mohamaddin Ketapi hops to PBM
Lahad Datu MP Mohamaddin Ketapi will join Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) after spending less than a year with Bersatu after his defection from Warisan.
The former tourism minister, who is also the Segama assemblyperson, announced this at a press conference today. He was accompanied by PBM president and Julau MP Larry Sng.
Lahad Datu MP Mohamaddin Ketapi will join Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) after spending less than a year with Bersatu after his defection from Warisan.
The former tourism minister, who is also the Segama assemblyperson, announced this at a press conference today. He was accompanied by PBM president and Julau MP Larry Sng.
“I chose to join PBM after scrutinising the party’s constitution, which is the basis of its formation, and that is fighting for the implementation of autonomy and the rights of the Borneo region as enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963.
“Given the country’s unprecedented political situation, I feel that consolidating the people’s power in the two Borneo regions of Sabah and Sarawak can resolve the problem of (lack of) political stability,” Mohamaddin said
Also present was Parti Kuasa Rakyat pro tem president Kamarazaman Yaakob who said that his party would enter into strategic cooperation with PBM and together support the leadership of Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who is Kamarazaman’s brother.
PBM secretary-general Nor Hizwan Ahmad said that Mohamaddin’s move was very welcome.
“This action, I believe, is based on his political maturity and his assessment of PBM’s struggle, which clearly aims to raise the will of the people throughout the country, including in Sabah.
“I would also like to welcome all Malaysians, whether they have the title of Yang Berhormat or not, to join the people’s struggle together with PBM.
“In the uncertain political situation of the country and with the rumours that this general election will happen, PBM offers a clear better option,” he claimed in a statement today.
Nor Hizman said PBM’s struggle, which is based on the theme of economy, technology and education, must be taken seriously by all the people who are fed up with power upheavals that shake the country’s stability and the efforts taken to ensure that Malaysia can survive in the uncertain economic conditions of the world.
“With the experience of old and new leaders from among women and young people, PBM is able to be a national leader in the present and in the future,” he said.
Yesterday, the Daily Express reported Libaran MP Zakaria Edris as denying rumours that he will also be joining PBM.
Zakaria was elected as an Umno MP before defecting to Bersatu.
