I refer to the malaysiakini report KL denies Musharraf plan undermines OIC . Actually, no one actually knows what the Musharraf plan comprises of. So how can we support or reject a plan that does not exist yet?

On the surface, the intentions of the Pakistani president appear noble and that is to end the unnecessary waste of life caused by the rift between the two main power brokers in the Palestinian territories - Fatah and Hamas. The fact that there is no plan means that this is just a public relations exercise to boost the credibility of Muslim leaders who talk a lot but do nothing.

Of course, our Malaysian government has expressed their support for the plan. Why? Simply because it sounds good to the masses (theoretically). This is neither taxing nor painful as nothing tangible will be done in the end.

I may sound skeptical but let's look at the facts on the ground. The internal fighting between the Palestinian factions happened after Israel started providing arms to Palestinian militants who are anti-Hamas, most notoriously of all, Colonel Mohammed Dahalan. Can President Musharraf or Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi - who is also the chairperson of the OIC - tell Israel to stop arming militants who are against peace?

Israel listens to no one, not even the US or the United Nations. Basically, the Musharraf initiative is a 'feel good' plan with no head or tail. Israel has said it will not accept the Hamas government. So who do the proposers of the Musharraf plan consider to be the legitimate government of Palestine otherwise known as the PA (Palestinian Authority). Is it Hamas as what the citizens there have voted for or is it any one other than Hamas as what the Israelis want?

Will the Musharraf initiative be able to solve the problems of the Palestinians in a just and fair manner or will it have to take into account the dictates and whims of the Israeli government? The Malaysian government has expressed full support for the Musharraf plan. Can idle words now translate into concrete action?

It seems to me that the only good Muslim leaders are those who Israel and the US want to kill and get rid of, the ones they terms as 'fundamentalists' or 'hardliners'. Whereas those whom they applaud and pat on the back - otherwise known as 'moderate Muslims' - are just hypocrites and pretenders. So which category does our Malaysian government fit into?
