Keadilan will not accept the invitation by Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad to attend the Malay unity talks, party leader Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said in a press statement tonight.

She said that the party's supreme council had met tonight to discuss Mahathir's proposal for tripartite Malay unity talks involving Umno, PAS and Keadilan, and had unanimously agreed to reject the invitation.

"Keadilan declines the invitation of the prime minister to discuss the issue of so-called Malay disunity because the party believes that what is really happening is that Malays are shifting their support away from Umno to Barisan Alternatif," said Wan Azizah.

She said that Malay disunity was not the main issue confronting the country at present.

"The main issue is the crisis of confidence in the leadership of the country, corruption, police brutality, the weak economy, and a judiciary which has been usurped by the Executive," she said.

"Keadilan is of the opinion that it is these important issues that should be given immediate attention by all parties," she added.

Wan Azizah also reiterated that Keadilan was a multi-racial party which always maintained an open attitude to ensure the peace and harmony of all Malaysians.
