Stop the personal attacks, says candidate's camp

The independent candidate's camp in the Batu Talam state by-election is very unhappy with the personal attacks on the young candidate.
Leaflets with various caricatures of independent candidate Ng Chee Pang are being distributed to the voters to undermine his capabilities.

According to Ng Chee Pang's father and campaign manager Ng Kwi Ling, various leaflets attacking the 22-year-old novice politician were being distributed among the voters.
Supporters of Chee Pang showed malaysiakini several such leaflets which attacked his inexperience in politics.
Some of the leaflets pointed out his links with opposition party DAP. His father Ng Kwi Ling is a strong DAP supporter. He was the Pahang DAP treasurer until he quit his post following his son's participation in the by-election.
One leaflet showed him being carried by his father - showing him as a young child needing his father by his side to contest in the by-election.
"If we had seen this leaflet earlier, we could have done one which shows a young Najib contesting for the first time," said a supporter.
The supporter was referring to Deputy Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's first entry into politics as a fresh inexperienced 23-year-old in 1973.
Harassed and heckled
Kwi Ling also claimed that he and another supporter were harassed and heckled by several Umno Youth leaders when they went to visit the Felda Tersang 1, 2 and 3 polling stations this morning.
When met at their operations centre in a shop lot in Cheroh, Kwi Ling said he and the other person were not allowed to talk to the voters in the Felda schemes.
"Umno Youth members heckled and harassed us. We were very angry but we could not do anything as we were outnumbered by them," he said.
He added that these Umno Youth members were not from Batu Talam but were from outside.
He also said that it was difficult to gauge the effectiveness of the by-election boycott by opposition parties PAS and Parti Keadilan Rakyat.
"By noon, the turnout was about 40 percent. I think the turnout will be good in the main polling areas," he said.
Regaining deposit
He also said that the support for his son was encouraging and that they do stand a chance to regain their deposit.
The overwhelming favourite to win this straight fight is the Barisan Nasional candidate Abdul Aziz Kiram, 47.
A total of 10,525 electorate, majority of whom are Malays, are eligible to vote in the by-election held following the death of BN assemblyman Tengku Paris Tengku Razman on Dec 27 last year.
In the 2004 general election, Tengku Paris defeated Pas' Dr Mohamed Nilam Abdul Manaf by a 2,761-vote majority.
PAS and Keadilan are boycotting the by-election, urging that the Election Commission needed to make urgent reforms to the electoral laws. DAP meanwhile is not interested in contesting here.
