After three weeks of inaction, a coalition of disabled group today sent a memorandum to Inspector General of Police Musa Hassan reminding him to carry out investigations on an alleged illegal imprisonment of several disabled persons.
Comprising 12 groups, the Malaysian Coalition Against Discrimination of the Disabled (Madd) wanted the police to take immediate action based on the report.

The memorandum was received by an unidentified police officer at the Bukit Aman police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur today.

"Unlawful confinement is a serious offence under Section 340 of the Penal Code. Is the police trying to send a signal that uniformed municipal officers are allowed to threat people this way?" coalition's legal advisor N Surendran told reporters later.

The incident involved father of four Murugan Rajoo, 36, who was allegedly detained along with several other disabled activists at the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) branch in Rawang.

No statement taken

On Jan 4, Murugan and his friends were there to secure the release of his motorcycle-cum-stall, which was confiscated earlier that day by MPS officers for trading without a license.

He claimed that during the ordeal, he was mocked by a MPS officer over his disability and was forced to urinate in his trousers because he was not allowed to use the toilet.

A police report on the incident was lodged on Jan 8, but those involved in the incident claimed that no statement was taken from any of them.

Thus far, MPS has yet to refute any of these allegations
