Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari has given his assurance that the Kuala Langat Forest Reserve will be re-gazetted before Hari Raya Aidilfitri - which is in the first week of May.
He was cited as saying that 97 percent of the area will be re-gazetted as a forest reserve, while the remaining three percent will be allocated for the Orang Asli.
"A few hundred acres will be used to build Orang Asli villages,” he was quoted as saying by Free Malaysia Today.
It is unclear if this covers the entire forest reserve area that was previously degazetted.
In December last year, Amirudin told reporters that he is confident the re-gazettement would cover "easily 90 percent" from the original gazette plan.
A chunk will remain degazetted to facilitate a potential continuity of the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL), dubbed the Seremban bypass.
At the time he had said that the re-gazettement would take place by March this year.
The Selangor government degazetted 54 percent or 536.7 hectares of the Kuala Langat North forest as a permanent reserve last May to make room for development.
It reversed the decision after heavy backlash from the public.
