Angry protestors held a demonstration at the 11th mile Cheras-Kajang toll plaza on Dec 31 - the eve of the toll hike.
The demonstration called for the postponement of the increase in toll charges affecting the Cheras-Kajang and four other highways in the Klang Valley which comes into effect Jan 1, 2007.
They also demanded that oen the concessionaires, Grand Saga Sdn Bhd, to open the Bandar Mahkota Cheras access road that had been blocked since October 2005 (see map below).
Opposition Leader and Ipoh Timur member of parliament Lim Kit Siang, Cheras MP Tan Kok Wai, Seputeh MP Teresa Kok and Selangor's Sungai Pinang state assemblyperson Teng Chang Khim were among those who addressed the 300-strong crowd.
The protestors dispersed peacefully 30 minutes later when ordered by the police.
