It is not clear how the minister picked up the virus, but his office said that a periodic PCR test on Friday had marked him as negative.
The US Centre for Disease Control (CDC) estimates that the incubation period for the Omicron variant is roughly three days.
Hishammuddin's office said the minister - who has received a booster dose - will be working from quarantine.
Nine days ago, Hishammuddin had been fined RM1,000 for violating SOPs when he attended the jam-packed shoulder-to-shoulder launch of Johor MIC's brigade in Kota Iskandar.
Also fined were incumbent Johor Menteri Besar Hasni Mohammad and MIC president S Vigneswaran.
