Former Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad today had a first face-to-face meeting with US tycoon George Soros.

At the end of their one-hour meeting, both of them met the press to reveal that they have patched up their differences.

Mahathir said that he now accepted that Soros was not responsible for the 1997-98 Asian financial crisis while Soros gave thumbs up to Mahathir's currency-control policies implemented at that time to tide the losing ringgit.

Mahathir, 81, and Soros, 76, were once locked in a public bitter dispute which escalated to name-calling during the financial crisis.
