CNY 2022: Reunion dinner, house visits allowed
Putrajaya today announced more relaxed standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the Chinese New Year celebrations this year, including allowing family reunion dinners and house-to-house visits.

Putrajaya today announced more relaxed standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the Chinese New Year celebrations this year, including allowing family reunion dinners and house-to-house visits.
Unlike last year when reunion dinners were limited to only 15 family members living in a 10km radius, reunion dinners scheduled to take place this Jan 31 have no limit to the number of relatives.
National Unity Minister Halimah Mohamed Sadique said open houses, however, were not allowed.
Receptions organised by companies or associations are allowed but are limited to invited guests only, with a number not exceeding 50 percent of the space capacity.
The receptions must be held in a hall or restaurant and not in the open or over a long period of time like open houses, she said.
Halimah was speaking at a joint press conference on Chinese New Year 2022 SOPs together with Transport Minister Wee Ka Siong in Putrajaya today.
She said prayers at temples are also allowed on Feb 1 and 2 in full compliance with the SOPs under Phase Four of the National Recovery Plan.
The special night prayers for Hokkiens on Feb 8 and 9 and other religious activities are only allowed in house compounds.
The Chap Goh Mei prayers at temples on Feb 15 are allowed in accordance with the SOPs, she said.
Also allowed are lion and dragon dances, subject to SOPs set by the creative industry.
“The SOPs are prepared for the safety of the people,” she added.
Meanwhile, Wee said the SOPs for this year are clearly more relaxed than last year.
“It has been discussed in detail in three meetings involving numerous stakeholders,” he said.
Wee, who is also MCA president said the party will organise a CNY reception this year, but only involving a limited number of guests.
The details on the reception will be announced by MCA secretary-general Chong Sin Woon later, he said, adding that the party will comply with the SOPs so as to give a good example to others.
