Industrial output fell 0.8 percent year-on-year in October after a 3.6 percent gain in September due to slower growth in the manufacturing and mining sectors, official data showed today.

Industrial output in October, as measured by the industrial production index (IPI), dropped 1.9 percent from the month before, the statistics department said.

"The decrease was due to the lower indices in the manufacturing and electricity sectors," it said in a statement.

Manufacturing sector output dropped 0.6 percent year-on-year in October, while the mining sector fell 2.4 percent.

Electricity sector output, however, increased by 2.3 percent from a year earlier.

For the 10 months to October, the IPI expanded by 4.9 percent from a year earlier, in line with growth in the manufacturing and electricity sectors which recorded a growth of 7.3 percent and 4.3 percent respectively.

However the mining index decelerated 3.0 percent from January-October from the corresponding period last year, the statistics department said.
