Former PKR central committee leader Fariz Musa has died at around 12.20am today after battling Covid-19 complications and bouts with other illnesses. He was 51.
Several PKR members in their condolence messages shared that Fariz was rushed to Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital, Kuala Terengganu, yesterday and was put into an induced coma in a critical state.
It is understood that his wife, Nor Hayati Husain, had also tested positive for Covid-19 and remained under quarantine.
Fariz was known to be among early supporters of the Reformasi movement, joining Parti Keadilan Nasional and later rising through PKR's ranks, including several years as Terengganu PKR Youth chief.
The former teacher was credited for two general election contests in BN strongholds, going up against former Kemaman MP Ahmad Shabery Cheek in 2008, and facing then prime minister Najib Abdul Razak in Pekan, in 2013.
Aside from being active in PKR, Fariz also led PKR-linked NGO Jingga 13, a familiar sight serving as security details at many major protests over the years.
It is understood he will be laid to rest at Kg Darat Pak Chan, Marang, Terengganu, Muslim burial site, this morning.
