1MDB spotlight on Zeti, husband

Former Bank Negara governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz and her husband Tawfiq Ayman are in the spotlight over their alleged involvement in the 1MDB scandal, prompting calls for investigations and even an RCI.

Zeti was once viewed as a protagonist in the 1MDB saga, who was stifled by the Najib Abdul Razak administration from taking action.

However, dribs and drabs have emerged that her husband Tawfiq was also involved in the 1MDB saga.

Last week the MACC revealed that they had repatriated US$15.4 million in 1MDB-linked funds that Singaporean authorities extracted from the accounts of a company that Tawfiq was a co-owner in.

The company, Cutting Edge Limited Resources, is said to have been the beneficiary of misappropriated 1MDB funds that were originally transferred to another company owned by Tawfiq and one of his sons.

Tawfiq's partner in Cutting Edge Limited is Samuel Goh,  an insurance broker who had helped set up a fund that fugitive businessperson Jho Low would use to squirrel away 1MDB funds.

Friction in Sarawak Harapan

The friction between PKR and DAP in Sarawak does not appear to have been resolved as yet.

PKR is still pushing for extra state assembly seats to contest in Sarawak, despite having just won three seats in the 2016 state election and in the wake of their abysmal showing in Malacca.

DAP, however, is not budging and insisting that PKR keeps to the agreement made in January that the party contests 47 of the Sarawak's 82 seats.

Previously, a 2016 disagreement over seat allocations led to PKR and DAP clashing in six seats, a situation they had hoped to avoid by coming to an early agreement.

However, one thing both parties agreed on is not to use a common logo in the election campaign, and they will instead use their own party logos.

Dyson dumps M'sian supplier

Vacuum cleaner Dyson terminated its relationship with ATA IMS Bhd, which supplies parts for Dyson's vacuum cleaners and air purifiers, following an audit of the Malaysian company's labour practices.

ATA had been accused of allegedly exploiting its migrant workers by making them work excessive hours and forcing them to live in substandard conditions.

This is just the latest in a string of probes and actions taken by countries in the West on companies operating in Malaysia over forced labour issues.

This month alone, US and Canada halted imports from glovemakers Smart Glove and Supermax, while US investigators are looking into allegations of forced labour at Goodyear Malaysia.

What else is happening?
