As it is now, English is considered the global language and is growing at a fast pace. There are other languages that are gaining popularity and they are Spanish and Mandarin. As China becomes more prosperous, the momentum of its growth will also follow until a point where Mandarin will outshine even English.

Then, at this point, what is left for Malaysia and Bahasa Melayu? It would become heavily creolised that it loses its economic value. Why not protect our Bahasa Malaysia's originality and at the same time improve our proficiency in other languages. We will thus be better persons.

There is a dogma that says that in order to be more prosperous, we must also be more proficient in English. Well, the record shows that this is not proven.

Filipinos speaks good English but the country's economy grows at a mediocre pace whereas Thailand and Indonesia are growing at a faster pace in spite of poor English. Other countries like Liberia, Malawi, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Ghana all uses English as their official language but yet they are among the poorest in the world. Jamaica, which uses English as its mother tongue, is no better than Indonesia.

Well, wake up, be proud of your mother tongue, protect it, love it and you will realise the respect other nationalities will have for you, just like the Japanese, Koreans, Indonesians and Thais who stand tall because of this respect bestowed upon them.
