With the emergency over, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said the government is ready to follow the king's suggestion that the revocation of emergency ordinances be debated in Parliament.
He said the cabinet will discuss bringing a motion to debate the ordinances for the Parliament sitting in September.
Muhyiddin said the matter of the king revoking the ordinances does not arise after the emergency expired on Sunday.
"As such, in line with the views of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Article 150(3) of the Federal Constitution, a motion to debate and then revoke the emergency ordinances can be brought to Parliament, which is scheduled to sit in September," the prime minister said in a statement.
The current Parliament special sitting was supposed to resume yesterday (Aug 2) but was postponed to a yet to be determined date - ostensibly due to Covid-19 risks.
The opposition accused the government of using the virus as a ruse to obstruct Parliament proceedings.
This came after the Agong gave a royal rebuke to the government for attempting to bypass Parliament to revoke the ordinances.
Last week de facto Law Minister Takiyuddin Hassan said the emergency laws had been revoked on July 21. The Agong, however, said there was no royal assent for this.
The Prime Minister's Office said the cabinet had advised the king to revoke the ordinances prior to Parliament convening, and said the monarch had to act on the cabinet's advice as per the Constitution.
Under Article 150(7) of the Federal Constitution, emergency ordinances are valid for six months after the emergency expires, unless annulled earlier.
