Selangor to start state vaccination programme, targets 1m workers

The Selangor government today announced its own vaccination programme called Selangor Vaccination Programme (Selvax), with the main target of inoculating 1 million industrial employees in the state against Covid-19.
The government said it has sealed a deal to secure 2.5 million doses of the Sinovac vaccine with Pharmaniaga, and planned to distribute them through a two-pronged programme - Selvax Community and Selvax Industry.
“Selvax Industry aims to vaccinate 1 million employees (2 million doses of vaccine) and is open to companies/industries to participate voluntarily.
“However, companies/industries must cover the cost of participating in the Selvax Industry programme to vaccinate their employees,” the state government said in a press release today.
Selangor has found itself ranked worst among all states with data from the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) yesterday showing the state had only inoculated 5.2 percent of its total population.
Meanwhile, it has a cumulative total of 259,852 cases and 1,722 deaths so far, nearly one-third of the nation’s fatalities.
The statement was announced on behalf of the Selvax Industry committee by Selangor Exco for Industry and Trade Teng Chang Kim (above) and Exco for Housing, Urban Wellbeing, and Entrepreneur Development Rodziah Ismail.
The government said priority will be given to manufacturing and services sectors as well as factories and companies with the most employees.
“However, a category of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) with less than 200 employees will also be included in the programme simultaneously,” the government added.
Employers are banned from charging their employees and must cover the agreed total cost of RM350 for two doses for each employee.
They are also not allowed to resell any appointment slots allocated to them, and vaccination can only be done through appointments with no walk-ins permitted.
Companies that have paid the cost in full can upload a list of employees to the system and appointments will be given through the Selangkah app, while five vaccine administration centres (PPV) have been provided:
- Tropicana Gardens Mall, Kota Damansara
- Evo Mall, Bandar Baru Bangi
- Hotel De Palma, Shah Alam
- Kompleks Sukan PKNS, Kelana Jaya
- Aurora Place, Bukit Jalil
A workplace vaccination programme is also available, the state government added, where it will be implemented by Selcare panel clinics and the vaccination rate capacity can reach 40,000 doses per day.
The initial phase of the programme started on June 26 while the next phase begins on July 25 till the end of October.
