Can Umno give a breakdown of the share-holdership of both bumis and non-bumis in each GLC?




On Umno veep: Asli's study will 'confuse' Malays

BOLH: Many years ago, there was a joke circulated in the United States on why women could never be US president because they would never admit they were 45 years of age. Whether it was true or otherwise that the NEP has helped the bumis to achieve a 45% stake in the nation's wealth, Umno should feel hearten by this news and to quickly work with Asli to confirm the figures and then tell the good news to the Malay community that they have finally arrived.

Umno should host a gathering and celebrate this auspicious occasion that the bumis do not need the crutches anymore and that they are now proud to be at par, not only with fellow Malaysians but the rest of the world too. Umno can and should take total credit for this achievement. Instead of the ecstasies, we face anti-climaxes like the usual self-denials, rebuttals of facts, and more sloganeering like "confusing the Malay populace", "don't play with fire", "it's tantamount to inciting ...". I guess once a pea-brain, always a pea-brain.

The question I would like to ask is this. Umno said Asli should not include the GLCs as these institutions are funded by the public, meaning bumiputras and non-bumiputras. If that is the case, then why are non-bumis barred from being hired to head the GLCs or even partially staffed by them? Again, if that is the case, why is it that Mahathir insisted that he would rather have a 'orang puteh' to manage MAS rather than a non-Malay when an expatriate is not even a shareholder of the company whereas the non-bumis are?

I know this is not possible, but can Umno give a breakdown of the share-holdership of bumis and non-bumis in each GLC? No where in the NEP says it is to enrich the Umno elites. It clearly says to eradicate poverty irrespective of race. Period. We are not even questioning the rights of the Malays. We are questioning what should have rightfully gone to the poor and needy, the destitutes.

If my Malay brethrens have already enjoyed the NEP in the last 30 years, then why are there still so many farmers, fishermen, gerai (stall) owners, taxi drivers, etc, still existing in our society. Instead, we get someone linked to the prime minister becoming a millionaire (or is it billionaire?) overnight, and who is only in his early 30s.

It has been awhile since the results of the NEP was announced that the bumis only achieved 19% of equity ownership. What has been done since then? Was there a post mortem? What are the strategies planned to improve the figures to achieve the 30% stake? If there are, can these be made transparent, especially to our Malay brethrens.


Throughly Confused Malaysian: I refer to the comments by Mohd Ali Rustam. I don't know if the Umno vice-president realises that the so-called 'non-Malays' in this country have for a very long time been confused over the repeated use of the same figure over the years by senior politicians to keep us all permanently confused as to how these figures were arrived at, with no official papers being published by those who did the study.

Surely the least that they should do is to make the details of the study available for public scrutiny? Or is that covered by the all encompassing OSA?


On Indon embassy official annoys anti-haze group

YSM: It just shows the Indonesian government has missed the whole point. The Indonesian representative is arrogant and foolish to have said that they export oxygen from their forests. That is a blessing from God, and besides the Indonesian government is allowing its people to destroy the oxygen-producing forests.

I call on the Malaysian government to sent a clear statement of protest regarding the destruction of our environment as a result of the haze. Malaysia has suffered the loss of productivity, the deteriorating health of its citizens and the loss of tourist revenue. It is not acceptable that nothing can be done. Next year, Malaysia must be able to sent its troops into the forests of Sumatra and Kalimantan to aid with enforcement if the Indonesian government cannot do it. The haze is affecting Malaysians and it has been going on for the last 10 years.

Malaysian citizens will have to take matters into their own hands if the governments cannot stop this annual bonfire. We will boycott Indonesian products and protest outside the embassy. We must make it known that we are fed up of this and it can no longer tolerated. We try to be good neighbours but when you pollute our air every year, we can't keep quiet.


ES Chua: Indonesia has never wanted Malaysia to exist from Day One. Many Indonesian leaders say Malaysia should be conquered by them. The haze is a sign that Indonesia wants to 'kill' us. They never respect us as a country so why should we respect them?

We should get the Sultan of Johor to stake a claim on the whole of Indonesia since the area was what his great grand uncle, Sultan Hussein Mohamad Shah (ruled 1812-1835), had handed over to King William Of Orange, King of Holland.

Indonesia is created by the Dutch out of the Sunda Islands, which are part of the Sultan of Johor's gigantic empire. Indonesia is a dagger at our necks and a bullet at our brains. We must turn this Dutch-created monster into something benign.


On AP cloning: Senator lodges police report

PT Tan: The senator in question should be thrown out of the august house for allowing himself to bring the house to disrepute, either knowingly or unknownly.

I also take offence that the Custom Department is reported that it has to seek the AG's Chambers when an offence relates to a well-known personality and they cannot go ahead and charge them straightaway.

Is it a case of these VIPs being more equal than others? Even if the PM committed an offence he should be charged straightaway and not referred to higher authorities. I salute the people of East Timor when their president said that if he was wrong, he should be charged.


On MMC: Nama doktor terbabit dalam salahlaku akan disiakan

Ahmad Sobri: I refer to the above report where the Health Ministry director-general stated that the MMC (Malaysian Medical Council) will publish the names of errant doctors even if they had appealed to the High Court. Can this be true? That is surely tantamount to going against the laws of this country concerning natural justice and its constitution. You don't hang a person till he has had a trial - simply put, you are innocent until proven guilty.

The MMC surely must know it is not the judge, jury and executioner. If by his own statement, the DG is concerned that trust and reputation are paramount in a medical practitioner then he is contradicting himself because publishing a doctor's name in the papers without him having had a fair trial is akin to destroying his reputation and by consequence, his practice and livelihood.

It is exactly decisions of this nature by the DG and his associates that has brought the medical fraternity especially private practitioners to distrust, disrepute and cloud the spirit of the implementation of the new Private Healthcare Facilities and Services Regulations 2006 Act. The DG must surely be aware of the case of Mohan Rajadurai vs Majlis Perubatan Malaysia heard at the High Court by justice Abdul Kadir Sulaiman on Oct 28, 1997.

Dr Rajadurai was wrongly found guilty by the MMC and suspended. The good doctor had his reputation tarnished and dignity destroyed. He lost his practice and his future turned bleak. In concluding his judgment, Abdul Kadir stated that the MMC had breached the fundamental rule of natural justice in arriving at their decision of suspending him.

Because of the MMC's callous action, a good doctor's future was destroyed. To add insult to injury, the MMC initially refused to compensate him for losses and then subsequently settled for a paltry sum of RM10,000 ringgit. Is this the recourse and justice for a doctor who has spent two decades trying to build a name for himself that DG Dr Ismail Merican is talking about?

If the DG and the MMC think that their modus operandi in trying to "debunk the belief that the MMC does not act against errant doctors" is to look for scapegoats as sacrificial lambs to appease the general public then it is better for doctors and all concerned to go to court right from the get go, instead of the MMC.

The MMC and especially its secretariat with its vested interests should re-examine themselves and debunk the widespread notion among private practitioners that they cannot be trusted before they pass judgment on others.
