Four Malaysians and one Thai have been arrested in Thailand on drug possession charges after narcotics police uncovered US$350,000 worth of heroin, senior police said.

Arom A-ya, 29, from Thailand, and Malaysians Na Beng Teik, 37, Gan Chin Hoo, 39, Loo Hun Hooi, 59, and Mohamad Noor Ahmad, 40, were arrested Saturday at a house in Hat Yai city, 930 kilometers (580 miles) south of Bangkok.

The five men were in possession of 14 kilograms (30 pounds) of heroin worth around 14 million baht (US$359,000), which they intended to sell, police said.

They all confessed and were charged with drugs possession with intent to sell, said Colonel Phinit Puisuwan.

"They could face the maximum penalty of a death sentence," he said.

Police also seized a Mercedes car and six mobile phones.
