Seven branch Youth wings in the Kubang Pasu Umno division today insisted that a resolution calling for the sacking of Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz was passed during the division Youth wing's meet over the weekend.

Nazri, who is an Umno supreme council member, was taken to task over his 'rude' remarks against former premier and party president Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

The branch Youth wings expressed surprise with Kubang Pasu Youth chief Zulkifli Md Ros Ahmad's statement in the media today that the resolution was not passed at the Saturday meeting.

According to them, the book containing the list of passed resolutions distributed during the meet also included the resolution on Nazri, which was listed as 'passed without debate'.

To prove this, Lubuk Kawah branch head Anuar Zainon, who is also Kubang Pasu Youth committee member, read the contents of the book to malaysiakini via the telephone.

The Lubuk Kawah branch together with its Wanita wing had also passed the resolution. However, its Youth wing did not approve it.

Two categories

Anuar said there were two categories of resolutions - those debated and passed and those accepted and passed without debate.

"In view of this, we assume that the resolution (to sack Nazri) was accepted and passed by the division Youth," he stressed.

The seven branch Youth wings which passed the resolution were Padang Pasir, Kampung Darat, Padang Halban, Lembah Arang, Kampung Baru Batu 17, Taman Mahsuri and Wang Perah.

Mahathir had previously helmed the Kubang Pasu division which is located in his home state of Kedah. He was also Umno president for more than two decades.

Anuar claimed that the resolution was sent to the division Youth wing's office in order for it to be raised at the Umno general assembly in November.

Meanwhile, Padang Halban Youth chief Mohd Shukri Halib said his wing passed the resolution because that was the wish of the members.

"Umno branch and Kubang Pasu members in general are very hurt with Nazri's remarks against Dr Mahathir," he added when contacted.

It was not passed

However, Kubang Pasu Youth secretary Samsuddin Ahmad said the resolution was forwarded by the seven branch Youth wings but it was never discussed at the division meeting as it was seen to be only an exhortation.

The division Youth chief Zulkifli told malaysiakini that several delegates had raised the issue of sacking Nazri at the meeting.

He reiterated that the division did not pass the resolution and dismissed the media reports claiming otherwise as being false.

"It wasn't a resolution but a speech form a Youth delegate (at the meeting)," he said, adding that he informed Nazri's aide about the matter.

"Only three resolutions were passed at the meeting which are politics - the ties with Singapore, economy - the price of paddy and religion - the issue of apostasy," he said.

Following reports that the division had passed the resolution, Nazri had accused its members of being 'stupid and ignorant'.

Nazri had come under fire for his caustic remarks against Mahathir following the former premier's criticisms against his successor Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's administration.

Among others, Nazri had challenged the 81-year-old former Umno president to be a 'man and resign' from the party.
