Muafakat will not be formally registered - Annuar

Speaking at the Ketereh Umno division annual general meeting today, Annuar said another organisation had already used the name.
The decision not to formalise Muafakat had been made by the Muafakat steering committee, which involved PAS and Umno leaders and endorsed by Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
"According to the records and minutes that are with me, we have made a decision. Muafakat will not be registered as a political party.
"Muafakat will be the platform for us to unite Muslims, which is not exclusive to Umno and PAS. It is open to all Malay and Muslim parties," he said.
Muafakat was born out of a common charter signed by Umno and PAS on Sept 14, 2019. Both parties have been working together on an informal basis during several by-elections and during the Sabah state elections.
However, PAS has since formally become a member of the Perikatan Nasional coalition which is headed by Bersatu - an Umno splinter party - and thus its commitments to Muafakat remain unclear.
Meanwhile, Annuar told party grassroots that allegations of him being a Bersatu "spokesperson" was untrue and that critics should prove their claims.
Annuar said membership records showed that he was party member "No 124" and that his loyalty to the party should not be questioned.
Although Annuar didn't mention names, it was clear that he was referring to public criticisms by fellow party supreme council member Mohd Puad Zarkashi.
Annuar said his critics from within the party should keep discussions civil and within the correct forums.
"Not on Facebook or WhatsApp groups. The party can make decisions at the right forum. At the supreme council meetings, I have been criticised by other members.
"I have chosen not to respond. It is not classy to attack one another," he said.
