"(In) the picture you mentioned about (workers) queuing up, I think it happened at a period of time when we have more than enough of workers who were discharged (from hospitals) to go to the factories," Top Glove managing director Lee Kim Meow told an online presser today.
He said Top Glove failed to have its staff correctly adhering to social distancing standard operating procedures (SOP).
"Since then, we have issued an instruction to ensure that we comply with it regardless of the circumstances.
"All heads of department were told to do their part to ensure social distancing even though we are operating in a very challenging environment."
Top Glove came under spotlight following a surge of Covid-19 cases among its workers which resulted in the government imposing a full lockdown at the workers’ dormitories in Klang.
All 28 of Top Glove plants in Klang ordered to shut down in stages to facilitate Covid-19 screening.
On another note, Top Glove denied that a video clip showing a worker being abused by another man at a hostel happened during the pandemic.
In the video that went viral this week, a man was seen being pushed against the wall and falling on the floor in pain. The alleged perpetrator and another man in the house were seen wearing masks.
When asked about the video, Lee confirmed the incident but said it occurred three years ago.
"The second video we talked about was an old video and that probably happened three years ago, which again if I remember correctly, we had taken action as well," he said.
