Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has reminded Umno Youth not to 'talk big' about boycotting United States and British products over their failure to resolve the crisis in the Middle East.

Those calling for a boycott should think long and hard on the implications such a move can have on the country, he said.

"Let's not talk big because when we want to implement, we would be hit bad and have to turn back because it will be burdensome," he was quoted as saying by Bernama.

Last Friday, Umno Youth deputy chief Khairy Jamaluddin, who is also the prime minister's son-in-law, suggested that Malaysia boycotts US and British goods.

Meanwhile, Abdullah said those quarters who have called for a boycott must contemplate on the complex problems it will bring about.

OIC meet

Furthermore, he said the Middle East crisis will be raised at the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) meeting in Kuala Lumpur this Thursday.

The prime minister explained that the conference will focus mainly on wether Malaysia and other OIC member states are willing to send their troops to Lebanon once a cease-fire is in place.

"Apart from applying pressure, we (OIC) will also push for a cease-fire to be implemented immediately in Lebanon," he said

Abdullah said Israel's violence was escalating because a cease-fire cannot be implemented despite many efforts.

"This is the saddening part because as long as there is no cease-fire, Israel's arrogance will continue and lead to more civilians being killed in Lebanon and cause further damage to the country's infrastructure," he added.

What was more disheartening, according to the premier, was that the special session of the United Nations Security Council failed to achieve anything because the US does not support it and instead supplies weapons to Israel.

Umno Youth, led by Khairy, staged a huge demonstration in Kuala Lumpur last week which coincided with US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice's visit here.
