Tenders for 880 9MP projects worth RM15 bil

Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi today announced that tenders for 880 new development projects under the Ninth Malaysia Plan (9MP) worth about RM15 billion will be effected soon.

In a statement released by the Finance Ministry, Abdullah, who is also finance minister, said among the projects in the initial list include the building of more than 450 primary and secondary schools, roads, water supply networks and the integrated transport terminal in Gombak.
The road project will be from Padang Besar in Perlis to Bukit Kayu Hitam in Kedah and bridge will be constructed between Semporna and Pulau Bum Bum in Sabah.
According to Bernama, the prime minister said the government is pushing for the implementation of the projects under the 9MP, after it was approved by Parliament more than a month ago.
He said this is the initial list and the government would release the rest of the details from time to time after obtaining the information from the ministries involved.
He added that all ministries and government agencies together with the Public Works Department (PWD) have been directed to take the immediate necessary actions, namely in expediting the designs and tender documents so that the projects can take off as soon as possible.
"At the same time, I also want the whole government machinery to ensure that the implementation of other development projects approved under the 9MP is expedited so that the public can reap the benefits from them as hoped by the government," he said.
Monitoring of projects
Information on the tenders will be advertised in local newspapers and the following websites myGovernment, PWD dan CIDB.
The list of projects can be obtained from the Prime Minister's Department website, the Finance Ministry website and the Economic Planning Unit website.
According to Abdullah, the methodology of managing projects and programmes (known by its Malay acronym PPP) will be used by the Implementation Coordination Unit and the National Implementation Directorate to monitor the projects.
"The main feature in the PPP methodology will encompass the best practices and process in the planning and implementation of projects. This includes ensuring that the project is completed at a reasonable cost and in the stipulated time," he said.
"As chairperson of the National Implementation Action Body, I will monitor the implementation of these projects," he added.
