Speaking during his turn to debate the royal address today, the PAC vice-chairperson said there was much work to be done but the delay was preventing the committee from resuming operations.
“It has been two weeks since we began the (parliamentary) session but the PAC has not been able to function, to resume our proceedings.
“The one excuse is that new members have not been appointed yet.
“How much longer do we need to wait for these appointments? How long do we need to wait before the functions of this committee are restored?” he asked.
“We are heavily lagging in our work,” he added.
Wong shared that the PAC - which checks government spending - had been hampered from being able to scrutinise the latest auditor-general’s report.
Furthermore, he said the PAC has not been able to table three completed reports examining the road tax collection and entry of foreign vehicle systems; Perlis sports school project; and DBKL land sales.
Three other reports were in the midst of completion while “at least” three other proceedings were waiting to begin, he added.
“Please appoint the full committee now, no more delays,” Wong urged.
Under the previous Pakatan Harapan administration, Noraini Ahmad (BN-Parit Sulong) was the PAC chairperson.
She and four other PAC members are now part of the executive by virtue of being cabinet ministers and deputy ministers.
Perikatan Nasional had agreed to continue with allowing an opposition MP to head the PAC, but that and other appointments have not been made yet.
