Keadilan information chief Ruslan Kassim has indicated that deputy president Dr Chandra Muzaffar may reconsider his earlier decision not to seek re-election.

"We are waiting for his decision, and based on recent developments, I feel that he will still be with us," Ruslan said in an interview in the latest issue of the party organ, Berita Keadilan.

Ruslan said the party supreme council has discussed Chandra's decision on Oct 10 and unanimously urged Chandra to reconsider his decision.

"We believe that he has a significant role to play. His absence will be greatly felt by everyone," he said.

Ruslan, who was nominated for vice-presidency, said not only is Chandra (pic) one of the founding members of Keadilan but he has also contributed greatly to the formation the opposition pact - Barisan Alternatif - before the 1999 general election.

"That is why we have appealed to him to reconsider his decision, to at least continue for another term or until the next general election," he added.

Ruslan said members from branch and divisional levels have also met Chandra to persuade him to continue serving the party as his presence is greatly needed.

Chandra could not be contacted for comment.
