Automated teller machines (ATM) services will be back to normal from tomorrow onwards, announced Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
"The government has decided that ATMs, which is currently operating from 8am to 8pm, will operate as normal as before the implementation of movement control order (MCO)," he said.
"The rule will take effect on June 1 to allow the public to manage their affairs via ATMs," he told a press conference today.
Ismail said although ATMs were allowed to operate at pre-MCO hours, the government found that services were still until 8pm and hence the announcement of the new ruling.
He, however, said social distancing must be kept at the ATM.
On April 19, the government banned ATMs from operating 24 hours to prevent the public from going out at night during the MCO.
Meanwhile, Ismail said the government may allow more businesses to resume if new Covid-19 positive cases continue to drop.
The government has received many requests for more sectors to reopen their businesses, he said.
Ismail said the government was currently considering the appeal from hawker associations on the reopening of market, pasar malam and bazaar.
"We discussed the matter at a special ministers' meeting two days ago... I had asked the association to discuss it with the National Security Council and Health Ministry so that the ministry could come out with an SOP on the pasar malam," he added.
