UM's Islamic studies lecturer appointed as FT mufti
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Zulkifli Mohamad today congratulated Universiti Malaya's Academy of Islamic Studies lecturer Luqman Abdullah over the latter's appointment as the new Federal Territories mufti.
Taking to Twitter, Zulkifli, the former FT mufti, shared a photograph taken during Luqman's visit to his office in Putrajaya for an official handover of duties.

Taking to Twitter, Zulkifli, the former FT mufti, shared a photograph taken during Luqman's visit to his office in Putrajaya for an official handover of duties.
"Alhamdulillah, this morning after the National Security Council meeting, I received a visit from the newly appointed eighth FT mufti.
"The handover ceremony was held in a brief yet meaningful manner," he said.
"My heartiest congratulations [...] siru 'ala barakatillah (may you move forward with Allah's blessings)," said Zulkifli who is the minister in charge of Islamic affairs.
Luqman's three-year appointment effective yesterday was also announced in a notice on UM's Facebook page.
"We would like to wish you all the best to serve in a new field, for the betterment of the ummah (people).
"It is hoped that the appointment will be blessed by Allah and bring honour to the university," said the notice.
Luqman, 51, was born in Kelantan and holds a doctorate from Scotland's University of Edinburgh in the field of Islamic property law.
The vacancy left by Zulkifli previously came under scrutiny after several names from several schools of thought were eyed for the post, including through an online petition to rally support for a particular candidate.
The online petition was however halted after it was criticised by Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Ahmad Marzuk Shaary as an unhealthy culture.
