The Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) is expected to interview Jasin MP Mohd Said Yusof for his alleged interference in the work of the Malacca Customs Department, said a report today.

According to the New Straits Times (NST) - which quoted sources - senior ACA officers would meet the parliamentarian later this week.

This follows Mohd Said Yusof's admission that he had asked the Malacca Customs to 'close one eye' over a consignment of seized logs.

It was later revealed that the MP's company Binyu Sof Enterprise - a freight forwarding agency - had been handling the illegal logs.

The MP was also implicated in another scandal involving the seizure of pirated Video Compact Discs - including a large number of pornographic movies - purportedly handled by another one of his companies.

Mohd Jasin has remained defiant and unapologetic over his actions, accusing the Customs top brass of having an axe to grind with him.

Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has demanded an explanation from the Umno politician amid calls for his head to roll from both within Barisan Nasional and the opposition.

Meanwhile, NST reported that a meeting will be held at the ACA headquarters in Putrajaya today to decide wether officers from the Malacca ACA or the federal headquarters should handle the interview.

It said the ACA hoped to complete its probe into the 'high profile' case as soon as possible and submit the papers to the Attorney-General's Chambers.

In a related development, Gerakan has called for a prompt investigation into the case and wanted the findings to be made public.

Party president Dr Lim Keng Yaik said this was important to eradicate any suspicion that BN was covering-up the wrongdoings of its MPs.

"The investigation will not only absolve the MP of his alleged misdeeds but will also give him a fair chance to defend himself.

"Making the results public would restore Parliament's credibility as critics have been having a field day exploiting the issue," he was quoted as saying.
