(AFP) - An American musical show set for staging in Malaysia next month has been postponed in view of security concerns following the Sept 11 terror attacks in the United States, a report said today.

The Sunday Mail newspaper said the local producers Gardner et Wife decided not to go ahead with the programme out of concern for the cast's safety.

"We cannot gurantee their safety and we don't think that it is an appropriate time for them to stage the show here," Diong Chae, executive producer was quoted by the newspaper as saying.

"We have postponed the show but are likely to hold it in the near future."

The musical, Putting it together, was written by Stephen Sondheim, one of America's most famous composers.

The actors, Sherry Boone, Albert Christmas, Connie SaLoutes, Joseph SiSalle and the musical director Thomas Douglas are all New Yorkers.

Diong said if the show went ahead, it would "be putting them at risk after the attacks on the US. We do not want them to be the subject of anti-American sentiments."
