(AFP) DAP chairman Lim Kit Siang today urged the government to ask the US for evidence implicating Osama bin Laden in the September 11 terror attacks and present this to parliament next week.

Lim said parliament must hold a full debate on the US disaster when it reconvenes on Monday.

He urged the government to ask the United States for proof that Saudi dissident Osama was behind the strikes on New York and Washington and submit this to parliament.

"It is the international court of the world opinion that must finally be convinced of the justice and righteousness of the course of action by the international coalition against terrorism," he said in a statement.

US President George W Bush has been working to rally an international coalition behind likely American retaliation for the attacks and an open-ended campaign against global terrorism and nations that support terrorists.

The US has released a 20-page summary of evidence against Osama is al-Qaeda network to embassies around the world.

'Dragon's seed'

Lim said the parliamentary debate must send a message to the US that a war against Afghanistan was unacceptable as it would only be "sowing the dragon's seeds to give birth to more Osama bin Ladens".

The debate must also urge the global community and the US in particular to pursue new policies to address "international injustices which provide the breeding ground for terrorism in the first place," he added.

Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has repeatedly condemned the terror attacks but last week said Malaysia opposed any US attacks on Afghanistan, where Osama has lived as a "guest" of the ruling Taliban since 1996.

Defence Minister Najib Razak reiterated Friday that the government would oppose any US attack on countries suspected to be harbouring terrorists.

"Malaysia wants the US to focus on tackling the terrorists' problem only," he was quoted as saying by Bernama news agency.
