MACC hints at more arrests over release of undocumented migrants

The Selangor Sessions Court judge, deputy public prosecutor and lawyer arrested for alleged bribery in relation to the release of undocumented migrants is not an isolated case, MACC chief commissioner Latheefa Koya said yesterday.
"It involves the whole ecosystem," she told a press conference at the Penang headquarters of the commission, on her first visit to the state since her appointment in May.
"We did not only arrest a judge, a deputy public prosecutor and a lawyer, but a bunch of police officers allegedly involved in the case as well."
The six police officers are with the Hulu Selangor police headquarters.
Latheefa said the 45-year-old judge, who was arrested in a hospital on Sunday while seeking treatment for chest pains, was remanded for two days.
The lawyer and deputy public prosecutor, whose remands ended on Sunday, were held until yesterday.
"We hope to wrap up the case soon," she said.
Accompanying Latheefa at the event was MACC operations director Azam Baki.
While saying that the case is not isolated to Selangor alone, Latheefa declined to reveal details of future arrests.
"The point is, this is a very serious thing, involving high-level officers, not just mere cops receiving bribes."
